Mexico's transport and communications ministry (SCT) has awarded a tender to expand and modernize a section of national highway 15 in northern Sonora state to construction firm ICA.

The highway project is budgeted at some 370mn pesos (US$31.4mn), paper El Semanario reported.

Construction includes expanding a 39km stretch of the highway between cities Navojoa and Ciudad Obregón to four lanes.

Highway 15 runs through Sonora state, connecting Nogales on the US border with Estación Don before continuing on to Mexico City.
