Santos to complete development, zoning plan in May (Brazil)
2011-04-11

Brazil's Santos port in São Paulo state plans to complete its development and zoning plan in May this year, a spokesperson from state port authority Codesp told BNamericas.

"The plan is focused on mapping out operational strategies based on technical and logistical aspects," the spokesperson said, adding that Codesp president José Roberto Correia Serra aims for the plan to deal with two regulatory issues.

The first involves facilitating procedures for port operations, which would entail changes to port modernization law 8630/93. The modifications, which including reducing red tape involved in defining port tariffs, are now awaiting approval from the special ports department (SEP).

The second area of focus involves regulatory issues to do with waterways regulator Antaq, said the spokesperson, who could not provide details about the regulations.

Santos is South America's largest port. It is expected to handle 101Mt of cargo in 2011, according to Codesp projections.
