Congress receives bill to create national rail plan (Peru)
2011-04-05

Peru's congress has received a bill to promote the development of a national railroad network and establish a committee to create a national rail plan.

The committee will be composed of delegates from the transport, agriculture, environment and health ministries, as well as regional government authorities. Once the committee is formed, it will have six months to present a plan for the national rail network.

The bill, which was presented by legislators from the center-right Alianza Solidaridad Nacional party, aims to complement the existing general transport law, according to the draft bill released by congress.

Peru has eight operative rail lines, of which seven are currently in use.
