Latin American development bank CAF has approved a US$48mn loan to Ecuador's Pichincha province to partially finance the Valle de los Chillos road development program in Quito district.
The initiative requires a total investment of US$58mn, the majority of which is covered by CAF, with 18% coming from the Pichincha government, according to state news agency El Ciudadano.
The program looks to improve public road infrastructure, reducing travel time and improving safety on routes between Valle de los Chillos and capital Quito, where traffic congestion levels are high.
Work involves building new roads and bridges and expanding existing roads. The works will improve the average traffic speed on the roads at peak times from 10km/h to 40km/h, according to the report.
