2011-01-07
Honduras' public works, transport and housing ministry (Soptravi) will invest some 4bn lempiras (US$211mn) in highway maintenance and construction, according to minister Miguel Pastor.

Soptravi and road maintenance fund Fondo Vial will manage 2.9bn lempiras and 1.1bn lempiras respectively, paper El Heraldo reported.

Along with government funds, external financing is being provided by the World Bank, IDB and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (Cabei), the paper said.

Construction projects include the Canal Seco highway, the four lane roadway from Tegucigalpa to Comayagua, the first phase of Central highway from El Porvenir to Marales and the Corredor Agricola highway connecting Olancho with Colon department.

Paving work will also be carried out on the La Barca-Pimienta and Pimienta-Villanueva highways, according to the report.
