MEF considering creating infrastructure fund (Peru)
2010-12-15
Peru's economy and finance ministry (MEF) is evaluating the creation of a sovereign fund to finance infrastructure projects, according to minister Ismael Benavides.

Authorities are working with international entities on the project and expect to have more concrete information regarding it in three months' time, state-owned news agency Andina reported.

The fund would be similar to financing mechanisms available in other countries, such as Chile, said Benavides, adding that it will finance projects to cover the country's primary infrastructure needs.

The minister ruled out the suggestion that the fund would use the country's international reserves, saying it will use revenues obtained from international trade, which have increased due to the rising price of Peru's exports.
