Chile's public works ministry (MOP) will launch a tender to rebuild the Maguellines dock in city Constitucion, located in central-southern region VII, by year-end, according to minister Hernan de Solminihac.
MOP will spend some 6bn pesos (US$12.7mn) to replace the port, which was destroyed by the February 27 earthquake and subsequent tsunami, MOP said in a release.
The ministry has completed engineering studies for the new dock, which will be 300m long, the minister said. The work will benefit artisanal fishermen in the area as well as promote tourism in the city and its surroundings.
The project is part of MOP's plans to rebuild infrastructure damaged by the earthquake in Constitucion. Work includes repairs on the Cardenal Raul Silva bridge, flood prevention on the Maule river, and the cleanup of streams and beaches.
