Edomex opens US$154mn Mexibus BRT (Mexico)
2010-12-06
Mexico state (Edomex) governor Enrique Peña has officially opened the state's new Mexibus bus rapid transit (BRT) system and the multimodal Mexipuerto station in Ciudad Azteca.

The BRT system includes 16km of exclusive bus lanes and 23 stations and required an investment of 1.9bn pesos (US$154mn), according to an Edomex government release.

The Mexipuerto terminal required an additional investment of 800mn pesos. Both projects were carried out in partnership with the private sector, Peña said.

The system, which runs from Ciudad Azteca to Ecatepec de Morelos, will provide the country's first express bus service and is expected to carry 150,000 passengers on 73 articulated buses.

The governor announced plans to implement three other BRT lines in the eastern part of the state.
