2010-11-18
Paraguay's public works and communications ministry (MOPC) has awarded the consultancy for a bus rapid transit (BRT) project in capital Asuncion to consortium BRTBUS.

The group is made up of Brazilian firm Logit Engenharia, Colombia's GSD PLUS and local group Consultores Asociados, MOPC reported on its website.

The group signed a US$1.22mn contract for the project, which is expected to take 10 months to complete, according to the communications ministry website.

Spanish group Getinsa-Taryet, Spanish-Argentine group Alg-AC&A, consortium MML and US-Canadian group PWC-SDG-CSI also submitted bids.

IDB is financing the consultancy, which includes analyzing Asuncion's existing public transportation system, carrying out feasibility studies and designing the new bus system, as well as completing an implementation plan and tender documents.
