2010-11-05
Mexican railroad operator Ferromex is investing US$170mn in new locomotives and building new sidings, the firm said in a release.

The firm began work to build 17 new sidings and expand another 8 in October. The works, budgeted at US$70mn, will become operative in 1Q11.

Ferromex is also spending US$100mn to purchase 44 new locomotives, which it will receive in May.

The firm's board of directors approved the extraordinary investment in June this year due to the growth experienced this year, the release said.

Ferromex spent US$54mn on infrastructure improvements in the first three quarters of 2010.
