Soptravi requests US$159mn budget for 2011 (Honduras)
2010-10-22
Honduras' public works, transport and housing ministry (Soptravi) is requesting a budget of 3bn lempiras (US$159mn) for 2011, the congressional website reported.

The amount will likely be insufficient to carry out the 2000 projects that are urgently required, said Soptravi head Miguel Pastor.

The planning ministry has recommended the ministry use its budget more efficiently. A lack of funds and slow project development often cause project costs to increase by up to 100%, said budget committee head Francisco Rivera.

Soptravi has asked other ministries to transfer excess funds from their 2010 budgets to complete pending transport, housing and infrastructure projects, the report said.
