2010-10-18
The Dominican Republic's President Leonel Fernandez has ordered construction to begin on a series of water and transport infrastructure projects for western province Elias Piña.

Potable water and sewerage authority Inapa will spend around US$70mn in the next year to repair potable water networks in cities Pedro Santana and Comendador and towns Sabana Larga, Juan Santiago and Hondo Valle.

The authority also plans to build wastewater treatment plants in the province's main cities, the presidential website reported.

Fernandez also gave the order to resume construction work on highways Las Matas-Comendador, Comendador-El Valle, HondoValle-El Valle, Porton-Guanito-El Aguacate and Banica-Las Cañitas-El Memizo.

Construction will begin shortly on bridges over the Alonzo stream and Hondo Valle river, said public works minister Victor Diaz Rua.
