Paraguay's President Fernando Lugo has submitted a bill to congress for the concession of capital Asuncion's Silvio Pettirossi international airport, the government reported in a release.
The bill also includes the concession of Guarani airport in Ciudad del Este, and the Chaco aerodrome, in Mariscal Estigarribia city.
Initial studies carried out by the public works ministry (MOPC) had suggested the Silvio Pettirossi concession would require an investment of around US$60mn; however, final studies placed the estimated cost at US$100mn, according to a ministry release.
While plans are to concession the Silvio Pettirossi airport for a 20-year period, the bill establishes a maximum period of 30 years. It is still unclear whether the concession includes all three airports or just the Asuncion terminal.
The bill, presented as a matter of urgency, is to be discussed in congress within 60 days, after which tenders will begin to concession the airports.
The concession involves building, remodeling, expanding, operating and maintaining passenger and cargo terminals as well as complementary infrastructure, and operating commercial, industrial and service areas.
