Ministry takes over Maiquetia airport (Venezuela)
2010-10-15
The Venezuelan transport and communications ministry (MTC) has taken control of Caracas' Maiquetia international airport, state news agency AVN reported.

The airport, previously controlled by an autonomous state agency, will now be operated directly by the ministry.

President Hugo Chavez ordered a change in control at the airport last week in a bid to make the terminal become more profitable.

The airport handled an estimated 8.8mn passengers in 2009.
