Mexico's federal district (DF) government has temporarily suspended its plans to extend line 2 of the city's Metrobus bus rapid transit (BRT) system, local paper El Universal reported.
DF mayor Marcelo Ebrard has said the execution of the project will depend on the disbursal of extra funding from the federal government.
The initiative, which aims to extend the BRT line 2 from Tacubaya to Santa Fe, has been under study for over a year, during which time both financial and technical difficulties have arisen, Ebrard said.
DF transport head Armando Quintero has said the project is economically unfeasible.
The Metrobus line 2 is a 20km BRT line extending over the Eje 4 highway from Tacubaya to Tepalcates.
