Govt seeks US$100mn World Bank loan for highway, airport modernization (Bolivia)
2010-09-27
Bolivia's government is seeking a US$100mn loan from the World Bank to develop highway and airport infrastructure in northwestern Beni and La Paz departments.

National roads administrator ABC will carry out a project to modernize the 114km San Buenaventura-Ixiamas stretch of national highway Ruta F-16, according to World Bank project documents.

Work will be performed on a 52.8km section between San Buenaventura, near the Beni border, and Tumupasa, and a 60.8km section running north to Ixiamas.

The loan will also finance the modernization of Rurrenabaque airport in Beni department, near the city of Buenaventura across the departmental border in La Paz.

Work will include building a taxiway, control tower and new passenger terminal as well as purchasing rescue and firefighting equipment for the airport.

The bank is scheduled to make its decision by February 24, 2011.
