Mexico's transport and communications ministry (SCT) has signed an agreement with Concesionaria y Operadora del Puente Internacional Cucapa to take over the operation of the new Cucapa international toll bridge.
The bridge, which will serve road traffic between Sonora state's San Luis Rio Colorado city and Arizona, will be operated by SCT's federal roads and bridges commission Capufe.
SCT originally awarded the concessionaire a 30-year contract to build and operate the bridge in September 2007, the ministry said in a release.
The bridge will be opened September 30 and is expected to be used by some 500,000 vehicles annually.
Capufe's operation of the bridge opens the door to its possible participation in future concession tenders carried out by SCT, the release said.
