Congress approves US$9mn for airport improvements (Panama)
2010-09-17
Panama's congress has approved US$9mn in funding for civil aviation authority AAC to spend on airport projects in northern Colon province and capital Panama City, AAC said in a release.

The authority will use US$6mn for preliminary studies on the Enrique Jimenez airport project in Colon province, an AAC spokesperson told BNamericas.

The US$60mn initiative involves expanding the airport. An AAC committee is currently studying bids, and aims to award the project shortly, the report said.

The remaining US$3mn allocated by congress will be used to help AAC purchase a new secondary surveillance radar for Perico island.

The radar will cost US$10mn in total, and is required to gather information about the flights arriving and departing from Panama City's Tocumen international airport.
