Brazilian port logistics company Wilson, Sons (Bovespa: WSON11) plans to kick off work on the expansion of its Ponta Norte terminal area in Bahia state's Salvador port in September, a company spokesperson told BNamericas.
"[Special ports department] SEP has announced a start date of September 13," the spokesperson said.
The company's container terminal operator Tecon Salvador signed a contract with state port authority Codeba earlier this month permitting the former to increase its lease area by over 60% to 118,000m2.
A down payment of 25mn reais (US$14.6mn) will be paid to Codeba, along with a monthly rental charge based on the new area. A price per container or cargo movement consistent with the original Tecon Salvador lease contract will also be charged, according to the official.
SEP has stipulated a completion date of January 2012.
