Argentina's Buenos Aires provincial government has awarded a tender to build a new 600m container dock at the Tecplata terminal in Ensenada's La Plata port.
The US$105mn project is the first part of a three-phase US$250mn investment at the port, the provincial website reported.
Argentine firm Dycasa will carry out the work, which includes building container storage and access roads for the new terminal, paper Clarin reported.
Dredging work for the port's access channel and the purchase of cranes and other equipment is expected to begin by year-end, the paper said.
The terminal, which will be operated by a consortium comprised of Philippine group ICTSI and local firm Loginter, is expected to open by end-2012 and will have capacity to handle 500,000 containers annually.
