Tonnage, cargo up at Lazaro Cardenas in H1 (Mexico)

Mexico's Lazaro Cardenas port in Michoacan state registered a 46% increase in cargo handled during 1H10 compared with the same period in 2009, port authority API Lazaro Cardenas reported.

 

The port handled 16.8Mt during 1H10 compared with 11.5Mt in 1H09.

 

The port also experienced a 38% rise in container traffic, handling 427,238 containers during the period versus 309,541 in 1H09.

 

Cargo movement in public terminals grew 75% year-on-year, while cargo in private terminals increased 34% during the period, the report said.

 

Lazaro Cardenas is Mexico's largest seaport.
