Ecuador's transport and public works ministry (MTOP) has invested nearly US$19mn in roadworks projects in Carchi province, state newspaper El Ciudadano reported.
Rehabilitation work, which cost US$15.4mn, has been completed on the 23.7km Julio Andrade-El Carmelo highway. The stretch will connect to the Panamericana Norte highway.
In Tulcan city, a paving project carried out by the municipal government required an investment of US$2.85mn from the central government.
In related news, MTOP is doing everything it can to ensure the on-time completion of a bridge over Babahoyo river in Guayaquil, Ecuador's largest city, according to minister Maria de los Angeles Duarte.
Chinese firm Guangxi Road & Bridge Engineering Corporation is scheduled to complete the project by year-end and has not requested any extension to the deadline, El Ciudadano said in a separate report.
The project is 2% behind schedule, said Duarte.
