MOP investing US$26mn in region I highways (Chile)
2010-08-16
Chile's public works ministry (MOP) is investing some 13.3bn pesos (US$26.1mn) in highway projects in northern region I, also known as Tarapaca, the ministry reported on its website.

A rehabilitation project for the 47km Sara-Huara stretch of Ruta 5, the Pan-American highway, will cost some 9.3bn pesos and is due to be completed by end-August.

The ministry's roadworks division is also carrying out maintenance on the 50km Huara-Colchane stretch of the highway, at a cost of 2.68bn pesos.

Work includes repairs to the highway's on and off-ramps as well as improvements to signage and drainage.

Finally, the construction of the 45m Tarapaca bridge on highway A-565 in Huara will require some 1.3bn pesos.

MOP undersecretary Loreto Silva completed an inspection tour of the region, where she visited the ongoing projects, the report said.
